Khan's exercises are excellent for exposure and initial fluency — do the ones in the video's context. But once you're being tested, the SM-2 recall + explain-back rubric is what makes the learning stick. Those are Brainback.

Khan is free, forever, and does not deserve to be canceled. Brainback's free tier is real too. A student on both platforms can go through an entire high-school AP curriculum without paying a cent to anyone.

Is Khanmigo similar to Brainback?▾

Khanmigo is an AI tutor from Khan Academy — narrower in scope (it primarily helps within Khan's curriculum), and more permissive about giving direct answers. Brainback is subject-general, curriculum-agnostic, and structurally refuses answers on your declared subjects.

Can I import my Khan progress?▾

Not directly. Khan progress is per-topic; Brainback tracks per-attempt with spaced recall. You'll build a fresh Brain score baseline over a few weeks.

Which is better for AP prep?▾

For content exposure: Khan. For practice + recall + calibration: Brainback. Use both together for the full stack. This is what the top-scoring AP students in our beta report doing.

Does Khan have a competing recall system?▾

Khan has 'unit mastery' which is a form of retention tracking, but it's coarser than SM-2 and doesn't generate cards from your specific errors. Brainback's card generation is per-mistake and per-explanation.

Should elementary school kids use Brainback?▾

Not yet — Brainback is designed for ~grade 6 reading level and up. Khan is stronger for K-5. We may add an age-tuned surface later in 2026.
