Why the strict stance
Every edtech product has a moment where the growth team looks at the data and says “we could sell aggregate insights to publishers, target ads to at-risk students, partner with a test-prep aggregator” — and the answer is always the same: no. Not because we don’t need the revenue. Because the business model that requires selling student data is not the business we’re building.
Our revenue comes from Student subscriptions, Family plans, and institutional seats. That’s it.
Deletion, in practice
Click delete in Settings → Privacy. Your account and all associated data becomes invisible to you within seconds. Behind the scenes, we soft-delete for 30 days (recovery window) then hard-delete — from primary DB, from backups on next backup cycle, from analytics on next sync. Immediate hard-delete on request via privacy@brainback.chat.
What’s in an export
Everything with your account_id: sessions, explain-backs, recall cards, Brain scores, settings, subject declarations, any parent/org linkages. JSON, one file per top-level table.
