When something feels wrong

Small guide to the common frustrations and what they mean.

Getting started4 min

The most common source of user frustration in Brainback is the attempt-gate. If you feel the tutor is being unhelpful, first check: did you write a real attempt?

The second most common source is the hint ladder. Level 1 hints often feel useless — 'this is a related-rates problem, thanks' — but they're doing work. Sit with them before jumping.

The third is the classifier. It sometimes redirects an Efficiency-mode message that felt clearly non-academic. When this happens, hit 'stay in Efficiency' and the message will go through. We use those decisions as training data for the classifier.

If you're stuck on something the guides don't cover, email hello@brainback.app. We read everything.
